Darcy is a 39-year-old woman who’s also a mom of one and married for eleven years. She has been unemployed for the past six years. Darcy has dreams that she wants to fulfill but due to limited funds, her dreams have been on the backdrop.

Nicky, a friend of Darcy’s, came to visit her. It was a coffee date where they chatted and laughed. Darcy is enjoying the time with her friend. She misses adult conversations a lot.

“Marius told me that he wants to reconnect our WiFi services so that I can take up an online course for social marketing,” Darcy tells Nicky. “It’s something I have been looking forward to for so many years,” Darcy continues.

“Then it’s something you should do!” Nicky encourages Darcy.
“I will,” Darcy responds, “but I need to save up the money for it.”
Their time together continues with topics ranging from their children, the Covid-19 vaccine, and schools.

Later that day, Nicky has made herself comfortable in front of her computer. For the next few hours, she needs to work through her first module in her subject for this quarter. She’s working towards a degree that will be completed over the next five years. As she’s studying, God made Nicky realize how privilege she is. Nicky is able to study whereas Darcy isn’t. It made her think.

We sometimes complain about our employers who ask us to complete a course, seminar, or webinar. We sometimes complain about this but then there are people like Darcy, who wish they were in our shoes. People like Darcy would love our job, income, and privilege to study.

Another thing that Nicky learned over the past few weeks, was that when you study, it forces you to concentrate. This trains the brain and aids in the prevention of dementia. Dementia can be genetic but it can also be because of the person who neglects training their brain.

Are you training your brain daily?
Do you complain about studies, seminars, webinars, or work?
Are you still grateful for what God is giving you?
