Gaindine was born in 1932. She had the most beautiful curly hair and took really good care of herself. Later on, in life, she married a police officer who was from a different background and language altogether. They loved each other and had two beautiful daughters who were each given a name from the mother’s tongue (language).

Gaindine’s husband died in 2002 from cancer. He will always be remembered for his strict discipline and the love he had for his two fox terrier dogs. Each morning he would get up and make himself a cup of tea. He would then go and sit down on the couch, bent over, and place two cup saucers at his feet. Then he would “trinkle” some tea into the saucers for each dog to enjoy.

As time went by, Gaindine got older and had to move in with her youngest daughter. Gaindine loved her grandchildren and also had the privilege to know her great-grandchildren. She loved to spoiled her grandchildren when they came to visit. For the one, she would always have fudge sweets ready for her grandson to devour. For the other, she loved spending time with him by watching cricket matches on television. They would discuss the innings and runs.

Gaindine developed Alzheimers two years back. Food became unnecessary, mood swings the normal, and the clock in her mind turned her into a child in an adult’s body. There were times when it seemed that the Alzheimers wasn’t “present” and good conversations would happen but they were few and far in between. She always had a smile on her face and until recently she would always watch cricket matches when available on television. She would be remembered for that, her love for family, and her soft hugs. For now, we know that she have no more tears.
